Just a quick post as I enter the last 5 weeks of life in Spain after 22 years as a music historian tracking the career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Unfortunately now without my 20 years of blogs documenting the 'Unreleased' due to Typepads demise and deletions, I am contemplating what was achieved by chasing Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli to give the fans a 'proper' set of REMASTERS.
One track that sums up the chaos of the late 1970s and early 1980s is the song 'Deep In Your Love'/'Deeper Than Love' and the mysterious credits on the track recorded by 3 artists and only discovered by The Four Seasons in The Snapper Box Set.
The First Version to appear on vinyl was by Stoneground and credited to Francis/Parker/Goldsmith!!!!! Could the credit be Judy Parker[Bob Gaudio's wife???]
But I asked the question.....Did Bob Gaudio actually have a part in writing this melody and lyric?
Well in 2020, I discovered the answer as a tape turned up during the Snapper Box Set with 'Deep In Your Love' as the title.....and in the vault by The 1982 Four Seasons
Because the guys at Snapper 'cocked up' after Bob Fisher's passing they didn't check with me and the track was left off the Box Set and now only appears on my You Tube page. It remains a great song and although not the superbly 'soulful' version by the Temps....it could well have been included on the groups last vinyl album in 1985, 'Streetfighter'. To me it sounds good enough.
It remains just another example of how fans were so badly treated during this decade.......the 1980s is the Four Seasons 'watershed' of neglect.
But we have what we have
